Brent has worked extensively with health systems, accountable care organizations (ACOs), managed care organizations (MCOs), medical practices, home agencies, and community-based providers and service agencies, helping to create integrated delivery models that bridge the gap between location and service needs to ensure the right care is delivered at the right time in the right place. In particular, his collaborations with physicians and advanced practice providers have led to deep expertise in home-based primary care, geriatrics, palliative care, and SNF models.
A passionate advocate for community-based care, Brent is widely regarded as a thought leader, and is a sought-after speaker and publisher on a variety of strategic and management issues affecting the community based care continuum. He has presented plenary sessions for Becker’s Hospital Review, the American Hospital Association, the American Geriatric Society, and the American Health Care Association among other professional and trade associations. Brent also serves as the practice management curriculum chair for educational offerings of the Home Center Care Institute, a Chicago-based non-profit organization focused on advancing home-based primary and palliative care nationwide. He has written for numerous journals and periodicals including Hospitals & Health Networks, Modern Healthcare, Remington Report, and McKnight’s Long-Term Care News.
Brent is Vice Chair for the Assisted Living/Non-Institutional Subcommittee of the Board of the American Medical Directors Association/The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine. He currently serves as interim Executive Director of the American Association of Home Care Medicine (AAHCM), having served for the 10 previous years as a Board member and Board Treasurer. Brent is a preferred consultant for the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (N4a), the trade association representing the 622 Area Agencies on Aging that serve to meet the psycho-social needs of vulnerable seniors aging in the community.
Brent received his Master’s in Business Administration with highest honors from The Weatherhead School of Management of Case Western Reserve University. Prior to Canton & Company, he founded and was President of Colonnade Healthcare Solutions, and most recently held a leadership position at Health Dimensions Group, a national post-acute and senior living consulting and management firm.
Brent believes in the power of community based care to improve outcomes and lower costs, as well as the importance of creating a health system designed to help individuals age in place.
